Hello! I am Dr. Kelly Slama-McManus. I am a board-certified pediatrician with nearly 20 years experience working with children and families. A native of Zionsville, Indiana, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
I attended IU School of Medicine, and then completed my residency in Pediatrics at IU-Riley Hospital for Children. While at Riley, I was awarded the Community Advocacy Award by my peers for developing and implementing a parenting class for teen mothers.
I served as a primary care pediatrician in Carmel, Indiana for 5 years. Focusing on the parent-child relationship allowed me to build strong relationships with families.
In search of a better work-life balance, I left primary care and began working nights in the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent Indianapolis Emergency Department.
As the pandemic set in, I realized, while children were not as much a victim of physical illness, their mental health was suffering. As of August 2020, I made working with children to support their mental and behavioral health my priority. I can be found providing direct patient care at Axon Health Associates, located in Indianapolis 3 days a week. I am committed to providing compassionate care to children and parents struggling with anxiety, depression, attention and or focus issues, executive functioning deficits, oppositional behavior and parent-child communication. I use the concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Problem-Focused Therapy and incorporate a foundation of Parenting through connections, Polyvagal Theory and Mindfulness.
Outside of the office, I am focused on mental health education in the form of group classes, lectures, yoga, and community outreach. Those efforts are found on this website.
With a husband professionally devoted to serving others , 4 active children and 2 dogs, outside of work, I can be found cheering on my family.
